Shipwrecked in Shenzhen?

For those of you who are listening to this and saying, "what...???"...well...here's an explanation.

This is kind of a random program today. I don't know how or why I came up with it. I just did. I was playing around with a new audio program and some sound effects and tada...!

It doesn't really make any sense. But it's kind of fun to listen to. You'll at least get to practice your English a little bit.

Oh, and I have included a transcript below so that you can follow along.

Welcome to Star Radio, Episode 3! I have to talk quietly right now because I'm in class 5 and my students are doing their morning reading. Just listen. Today on star Radio, I'm going to take you on a digital tour around China. So grab your money and your bags. Are you ready?

Our first destination today is the Guangdong city of Shenzhen. Now from where I am right now, I could take a bus. But there's a much quicker way.

Let's take a boat!

Unfortunately there's a typhoon approaching from the sea today and we've hit some bad weather.

Uh Oh!

Looks like the boat is going to make it!

Every man for himself!

We're sinking!

(Choking sounds).

I'm ok. It's a good thing I know how to swim

Three hours later, I finally wash up on the shores of Shekou Port in Shenzhen. Wow. Oh. That was quite a swim. But, eh. At least the typhoon's gone, right?

After walking for an hour, I finally find a major highway. Unfortunately, I'm still very wet, and i'm having a hard time getting a taxi to stop for me.

Hey, hey, stop! Over here. I need a ride. Hello? What is their problem? Why won't they stop for me? Do I look that bad?

Finally, after another 30 minutes, a compassionate taxi driver pulls up beside me and I finally have a ride.
This guy is driving like he is a race car driver or something! But I don't care, I'm just happy to be alive after my shipwreck.

I arrive at the train station a few minutes later. That's right. I didn't come to Shenzhen to sight see. I do like Shenzhen. But I want to go somewhere. Somewhere far away for a few days. I quickly buy my ticket and grab some of those delicious but unhealthy instant noodles. Before I know it, it's time to board the train.

As the train pulls of the station, I breath a sigh of relief, but I'm a little worried. If all of this just happened on the first day, I wonder what the rest of the trip will be like.

Where am I going?

Sorry. That's all we have time for today. You'll have to wait until some other time to find out.

I mean, reaching the Shenzhen shore safely after that 3-hour swim (albeit not in time to dismiss the morning reading class)! Glad you made it, 'cause if you hadn't, the NEC administrator's job would've been up for grabs today! But a great one, though (meaning the radio program!). And you're right, there were enough for a good listening practice (and some great sound effects too)! ;-)

Haha...I think the morning reading class added a strange element to the whole story but actually, that was one sound effect which was real. That background noise was from class 5!

For some odd reason I just had to start with that.

A monodrama? Maybe next time you can put on a short radio play with your students.

Star's picture

That's a good idea, actually. But then that would require writing a script. For this one, I pretty much just made it up as I went along.

as logic is concerned,it's not reasonable to walk an hour and to find a highway innanshan district....haha...are you going to make it into an adventurous story???

Star's picture

True! Although, we don't really know when this story takes place, right???;)

I have an American friend who visited Nanshan 20 years ago when there was NOTHING there!

In my story, maybe I take my listeners back in time!

I wasn't really planning on making an adventure story out of it but maybe I'll do at least one more since people will be curious about where I go from SZ.

Will you go on telling the story next time?

Ha,maybe you can invite some students to play the passer-by or something in your trip, that must be very funny, haha,!

If enough people are interested, I might continue the story sometime. It would be fun to include a couple of students at least in the background.

(*^__^*) To some great extend maybe because i'm from shenzhen,so i'm expecting how the story's going.
